We visited an abandoned Portland cement factory. The factory was sold in 1925 to the Belgian company Solvay. The company Solvay led the development of the plant until 1939. Parallel to the development of the cement plant there was a general improvement of the financial situation and apartments and other social facilities for the staff were built. The demolition of the mine “Grodziec” caused irreversible damage to the cement plant and in 1979 the factory was closed. Nowadays you can visit the factory but pay attention: there is a lot to collapse. The buildings are very bad. Everywhere iron pins sticking out of the ground where you can hurt yourself.
