De Franse presidenten Sarkozy en Hollande lukten het niet om de metaalfabrieken in Lotharingen (Fr.) open te houden. Ondanks veel rondlopend personeel kregen wij de fabriek wél geopend. Na enig gestoei met een ijzeren deur begaf hij het uiteindelijk. We kwamen uit in de kelders van het kompressorgebouw. Hier stonden de oliecircuits om de vier zware luchtcompressoren te voorzien van de nodige smeermiddelen. Vanaf de halkraan hadden we een mooi uitzicht over de hele hal. Twee stijlvolle trappen leidden naar het local panel. De fabrieksbesturing dateerde uit de jaren ’60. Héél ouderwets maar wel interessant om te zien temeer omdat ik zelf 18 jaar lang als meetkameroperator met dit spul heb gewerkt. Dit was mijn zandbakje. Hier werden we gelukkig niet gestoord door mensen dus we konden rustig onze gang gaan en onze fotootjes schieten. 

The Alienworks Power Plant is an old but quite well preserved power plant in France. Dating back to the 1930s the five turbines remain in good condition, but unfortunately have been covered with a little bit of graffiti. All five turbines are a different design, and are all different sizes. Presumably they had been added at different times to serve specific purposes. The control room is located on a mezzanine floor overlooking the turbine hall, with a sweeping curved staircase at either side. The power plant was part of a once huge and very busy iron works. Most of the site has now been demolished or redeveloped, but the power station remains, along with one blast furnace that is now used as museum.Disclaimer: I never claimed that I visited this place.
