The Polissya hotel (Готе́ль Полісся) located in the center of the abandoned city of Pripyat is one of the tallest buildings on Kurchatova Street. The hotel was constructed in the 1970s to provide lodging for high profile delegations, senior party officials, and other visitors to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Inside of the hotel was a beautiful nightclub with vibrant red walls. We did not have much time so we took a few minutes and then went back outside.
After the accident, the hotel was used as a command post for operations at the nuclear power plant. The helicopter operations were observed from the top of the Polissya Hotel. The once-beautiful hotel is now partially destroyed and is being reclaimed by nature. Inside of the hotel visitors can still find the old kitchen, complete with appliances. In 2014, the Polissya Hotel was ranked in the Top 10 Abandoned Hotels by CNN. The Polissya Hotel was also featured in the video game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl.
